Question - Is it pronounced "light-ing" down south? Yanks pronounce it "light-ning". Just curious.

When I was 11 or 12 we had a lightning storm above my house. We had a detached garage at that house, and there was a bolt of lightning that went through the wood and struck the rail system that the doors ride on. I will never forget the site or the sound of that bold of lightning hitting the garage. Ever since then, I get nervous whenever there's lightning around. It's an awesome force, and one that I respect immensely.

And it's pronounced Light-ning. :2cents:

It is educational and socioeconomic, not regional. Heard a kid in Montana pronounce it, Lotnun.

The reason it went thru the ground is too much salinity from over fertilizing. Bet your electric fence works good, though.

Heard a kid say it like this once. "Light tu nen". I guess it don't matter how one says it because as long as they are saying it then it ain't struck them yet!

I pronounce it light- ning. Strange thing here in my part of Middle Ga with all the rain that we have had for months now, there has been no lightning and thunder. That is very unusual. We usually have some during the winter.
I am not complaining. I always worry about the cows when we have lightning. My dad lost some during a December storm while I was in high school. I remember it well.
I know this is the wettest January that I have ever seen. Water is everywhere and another inch and four tenths yesterday. I am ready for spring.
