Light weight calves and kleingrass

Anybody ever had light calves(4wt) on kleingrass ?
I had cows on it and when we got rain they got fat but I'm afraid it could get stemmy and not have enough nutrition for calves

As with most warm season grasses, there will be a need to supplement protein and energy for good gains with stocker calves. The key is to balance the difference between the animal's nutritional requirements and what is provided by the forage. It might be as little as 1.5 to 2 lbs of a 38% CP cake that has some added fat in it.
