Hi everyone, I have been feeding the cows wheat and sorghum hay. Since November they have also been getting 4 pounds of 20% cubes every other day. I am now feeding alfalfa with 19% protein.

If these were your cows, many with calves, would you reduce the cubes? If so, to what?

IMO-if your cows are in good BCS you could probably replace cubes lb for lb with the alfalfa if you are still feeding the other hay also. If cows are heavy milkers, thin or losing weight you may want to continue the some or all of the cubes until the desired BCS is reached. Cows with medium BCS are more likely to rebreed in a timely manner than thin cows. You may wish to consider this in your nutritional decision making. JMO

Sounds like they are getting all they need in the protein dept with the alfalfa. We feed cracked corn along with the alfalfa for the ME value and it brings the girls in close and cuddly for evening muster. DMc
