My engineer daughter just bought 34 beef master heifers. Went to the sale barn today and bought some HB baldies.

My lineage goes all they way back to cattle drives to New Orleans. That was before the cattle drives went north out of Texas. Since I had no sons I thought the line would stop with me.

Daughter went without me to the sale barn. She says she's seen enough and she's heard it all from me "too many times".

At about 13 I lost my little Tom Boys. They became girly girls. Now they are coming back around it seems. She's got 3 daughters of her own. No sons. This is going to be interesting:-)

Her getting in the cattle business makes me proud. Didn't even know she had bought a ranch. Guess all that college tuition I spent paid off.
 
Our family sold out of their land and cattle generations before I came along.
I think there is something inherited, because I can only think of one person who had complete cow sense the first time she ever worked cows. My townie sister.
I don't count; I couldn't stay away from the critters as a kid.

In more ways than one it seems. Her going to the sale barn alone and buying the baldies she bought for the price she paid made me proud all by itself. She has confidence.
 
Sounds like you raised her well!
My dad had all girls also, 4 of us. We all learned how to take care of livestock, build fence, run a tractor and work hard. (Some of us better than the others. Lol) We may not have always showed our appreciation for it at the time, especially when we wanted to be doing something "girly" instead! But I love and respect him everyday for it now! He also taught us well.......Miss him dearly.

Her father-in-law sends her to the car dealership when he wants a new truck. She's a tough negotiator. She got that from her Momma.

My youngest is out of jail now. Hoping she's finally gonna get on track.

My youngest daughter nearly four years ago left a pretty decent job here and moved to central Montana to take a job on a ranch. She since met a pretty good guy, got married, and the two of them have a pretty bright future in the cattle business. She made that move because that was the life she wanted to live. Last time was out to see her I had two old ranchers ask me if I had any more daughters like her and if I did I should send them too. I am pretty proud of her for doing it but I did lose my cowboy when she left. The two boys will certainly help me when asked but they don't live for it like she does.
 
Glad to hear it's going to get carried on, bhb. It's kind of funny what sticks with kids even when they don't really show any real interest.
As far as the younger daughter, don't give up on her but don't bail her out any at all. I have a cousin who finally cleaned herself up after fifteen years on meth when she looked around and there was nobody left that gave a shyt if she lived or died. Once she cleaned herself up and did it for HERSELF and not just as a ploy to manipulate everyone into helping her we kept her straight and she's been clean for two years and has her kids back and is holding down a job.
 
Sounds like she wants to prove that she was learning all along. sure the boys at the stockyards will tell you a big story next time you go. hope your youngest can keep on the right path.
