Good thing. Otherwise, no end in sight. Longest one of these yet. Lots of money spent there and what did we really accomplish? In a short time, any progress made there will be lost. Will still be a corrupt brutal hardline society with a bleak future.
Same as Vietnam and Iraq. Were there any positive long lasting outcomes? Lots of money spent and lives lost. Did our involvement help the people there, help the US, make the world a better place? US should generally stay home and protect out borders and interests, and avoid trying to straighten out the rest of the world.
 
I don’t think there is a good solution to things over there, unfortunately. The Afghan people need to be able to support/defend themselves without our presence there, but I’m afraid that won’t happen, and the Taliban will take everything back over just like before. I hope they can get the translators out that helped our military all those years. They risked their lives to help us and fight the enemy, and we shouldn’t abandon them. I know they will be a big target if left behind. I’ve seen where some of our troops are working hard to try to get them out, but the govt red tape is making that difficult.
 
One could argue that it is better to have war on their soil than ours. Now in a short time the threat will be back on our soil. Kind of looks bad to just walk off and let what they though was their friend just be executed. Kind of just throwing them to the wolves. You think anybody else wants to be our friend? Afghanistan is a good strategic standpoint to Russia and China and now we gave that up. We had them on the run, in control and one stroke of a pen and now it is gone.

There is only one proven way to do nation building in a tribal society. The Taliban have that all figured out.
 
@jltrent I have always seen it that way too. That group, gave the terrorists a safe haven there before and what's to stop them from doing it again. To me it made no sense to overthrow the taliban only to let them back in. Its a disservice to the American soldiers and those from around the world that fought and risked their lives and many died in an effort to rid that country of that regime and free the people from that oppressive group. At the time even though I agreed that Iraq needed regime change, I could not see the logic in going into Iraq at that time, when I thought there was still lots of need for a continued effort in Afganistan.

Not to worry old Joe got Putin straight last month when they met don’t you know. We can leave and they will all behave. We have to stop fighting wars unless we fight them to win, period. Also here or abroad, you can’t help those that won’t help themselves. The only strategy in play anymore is political strategy to keep their butts elected, the good of this country or any other has nothing to do with it.
