Just a couple pics of the rock house. Their daughter had it built for them to make for easier living than the farm house. It was custom built with the best material and most modern fixtures available at the time. The average home at the time cost $2,000 to build, this one cost $11,000. A big chuck of that was to run electric lines from Mansfield, over a mile away. This house and the farm house were electrified in the late 20's, the surrounding area didn't get electricity until the 40's. In spite of continuous occupancy for over 80 years, some of that time by renters, most of the house is original and still in great shape. It has pecan wood floors and doors, a slate roof, and still has the original tile and fixtures in the bathroom. The kitchen floor had been replaced and fresh paint put on, but that's about it.

The tour of this house is included with the $8 ticket. It is just a short way down the road from the farm house.

Wow that must have been a wonderful tour, thanks for sharing pics. I love seeing things like this in person too, it brings it all into perspective especially if you are a fan of the books.. :D

Hubby and I just got done looking at the pics.
Thanks for sharing Mo_cows.

Told him we would have to plan a trip down there to go see all of this.
