I am enjoying the start of a long weekend, decided to go over to the farm and get some photos it is a beautiful day just a bit warm as it tends to get in the Florida Panhandle.









The first group of pictures are of our 2 and 3 year old cows. The heifers should start calving middle to late September with the 2011 group about mid to late October. They are all looking fat and sassy. We moved them into this pasture yesterday to get them closer to the working area in case we have any calving issues. They have been on a pasture that had a little millet patch on it for the last two months so they are in good flesh and ready to calve.

The next photo is of a cow we purchased at the Howard Dispersal in June. She is a SAV Pioneer out of a SAV Blackcap May there is a thread on here where I showed photos of her sire, dam and flush brother. She is bred right now but we plan to keep her open this year and flush her.

 
Now the next photos are of three bulls that we used as yearlings last breeding season. We will be using two of them this year with the third being used to clean up cattle that are in the sale pen. The problem I am having is picking which one to use where. I like all three of them they all bring a different little twist to the table they are really making me scratch my head.



Two of these calves are out of our 658 donor one is a natural calf out of Coleman EXT 6149 the other is 658 X EXT the third calf is out of a maternal sister to 658 she is out of 5X25 the sire of the calf is Juneau 807J.



This is the Gizmo Juneau 1221 831 807J Registration 17523782 His dam made pathfinder last year so the maternal side of this calf is strong for sure.



This is the Gizmo EXT 1228 658 Registration # 17523770 We have flushed his dam several times and so far every mating has been keepers. He is really long and deep.



This is Gizmo EXT 1246 658 6149 Registration # 17523975 The natural calf out of 658 and our now deceased herd sire Coleman EXT 6149 the picture really doesn't do him justice he is really deep wide and soggy.



This is a shot for you feet and leg guys all of these calves stand on a good solid foot
 
The next group of pictures is of some of our open heifers. One of the three bulls pictured above will be used to clean up this group after they are AI'd the other will be used to clean up the 2 and 3 year olds.





This is an ET calf we purchased from the Coleman Angus program in Montana she is a friendly girl.



The millet is really putting some bloom on them.



Well that is the way I spent my morning I never made it to the mature cow pasture it was getting hot and we were all starting to look for shade.

Our heifers sold well, but the other consignors had the barn burner..

215 bred heifers averaged $2603.. for commercial heifers in the southeast that is a barn burner.
High selling pen of bred heifers was a pen of SimAngus heifers from Blackbelt Research Center in Alabama at $3550.. :banana:

28 open heifers averaged $1300 top selling pen was $1700.
 
:clap: :clap: :clap: Holy cow that is a burner, congrats to all involved! I know the folks at Alabama BCIA are tickled they do a good job in developing criteria to insure good cattle are offered and the results show that the buyers are willing to pay for the quality.

If they weren't fat with the grass and millet they have had this year then they sure would have earned a trip to town. Thanks the the kind words.
