late season seeding

I would like to seed a hayfield around the first of August. Have always seeded in the spring with oats as a cover crop. I then cut the oats as hay and it seems to help with the weed problem. Seeding this late and not being able to use oats as a cover,what can I do to help with my ragweed problem? Is there a certain type of hay that can be sprayed with herbicide in the spring without killing off some of the grass mixture? Have never used herbicide on a hayfield before. I live in East.Cent. Mn. I would think you could seed with a cold season annual like rye grain or winter wheat.

Looking online and it says for rye grass,you need 60 days growing time before a killing frost. If this is a usual fall,I would have about 45 days before frost.What are the chances that would be enough time? Dan

Not rye grass, rye grain.
