Late calf.. How much did I weigh ?

Pics of the 11 day late heifer calf. I guess she is not as red as I thought once she was all dried off. :P I got her tagged, tattooed and weighed this morning. The toque gets to stay on until tomorrow.

What do you think she weighed, her dam is one of my biggest cows .

CW you are a little light, her back end is around 34 inches high and mom weighs around 1700 lbs. She is a good 3 inches taller and longer aready than my calf born on the first and he weighed 88lbs.

Alright I don't know everything but I sure don't care to ask either what is the toque and what does it do?

You all are good . She weighed 112 and that is the largest PB GV that I have ever had to date. "that I remember off hand". Mom did it all by herself and the afterbirth was off right away, baby was very active from the get go .... :) Am I keeping her as a replacement ?????????? You bet , I think she is going to be a heck of a heifer.. :banana:

Bryant, a toque is what us Canucks call a hat that covers the head when it is really cold out. :P We use them on new babies in freezing temps after they are born so they do not freeze their ears. Like -20 weather. ;-)

First off (for those who have never seen a hockey sock) they are pulled over the shin pads and top of the skate. They are open on both ends.

Pretty easy, they have a fairly strong elastic. You just pull them over the calf's head and down its neck, leaving the end of the sock just behind the calf's eyes. You want as large a size as you can get. I actually cut my socks in half, but kind of decided that they would work better as a whole sock, the extra length keeps it in place better. Wish I had a picture to show you.

I just use sweatpants and you can buy them cheap. I get a pair of Ex lrg. extra thick cotton sweats with the elastics cuffs and cut them off just under the knees. Hubby usually asks me at least once in the winter "what happened to my sweat pants?" :lol2: He then gets a new pair. I screwed up last year and cut up his favorite 40 dollar sweats by mistake, won't do that again, but the calfies ears sure stayed warm . $9.99 for two ear warmers is a much better price.

How much are hockey socks Randiliana ?

I think I may try the socks next year, they sound like they would stay on better with a very determined mom to get at those ears. Had a little 75 lb bull calf this morn. but the sun is shining and only -8 out ,so his ears are nice and dry/warm all by themselves.. :D

Randiliana gave me the idea of an ear cover when I first signed up on CT. I didn't get into town in time to buy the socks but had hubbies old sweats around and decided to give it a go. What do ya know it works and has saved many ears. Thanks for the great info Randiliana.

Sweatpants would work just as well, just never thought of them.

Couldn't tell you what a pair would be worth. DH had some old ones left over from when he used to play hockey.
