Will you cover it or is the rain so little that it doesn't matter?
 
That stack here would be an invite for a "pop up" thunderstorm of 1-2 inches .... @kenny thomas knows just what I mean...
Quite a few dairy farmers around here, do "big square bales" like those... but they have a permanent roof over top of the storage for them... and many are in barns or pole barns or something with 2 or 3 sides on them too.. One of my dairy farmers had 7 inches rain in June... and already 2 inches this month.... NOT the norm...

We had 7" of rain in June and 3" in July and that is the norm.

Squares both big and small have to be under cover or wrapped day of baling or they turn into giant sponges sucking up ground moisture and dew/fog/rain.

I wish they were easier to deal with as I'd switch in a heartbeat. Quicker baling and no wasted space stacking and storing.

I don't think I will cover it. This is my 7th year here and I haven't covered any yet. Most here don't cover hay. One of the advantages of living in the desert. Over in Baker and especially up against the mountains they get more rain and snow. They either have hay sheds or they tarp the hay. We are on the leeward side of the mountains. Storms have already dropped their moisture before they get here.

We do have irrigation. There is a ditch on the other side of the stack . The water is about 10 feet wide and 2 feet deep. I spend an hour or two every morning May through September opening and closing taps and setting dams. The irrigation rights here date back to 1873. The old timers in this area were some ditch digging guys.
