lancing abscess

Heifer has a thumb sized abscess on her upper lip. Doesn't seem to bother her at all. Thinking about lancing it. Is it as simple as it sounds . . . sharp knife and small incission? Or is there a trick? Is there puss squeezing involved (sorry) or just draining?

Never mind. Just read previous posts on "lump on jaw". I'll take it from here.

If it's that small and not bothering her, I'd leave it. Unless you have desire to perform surgery. It will likely break open eventually on it's own.

Thanks. Tried lancing it. Nothing happened - couldn't get any drainiage. Guess I'll go back to let it be till next time I have the vet out if nothing's happened by then.
