We have a "golf ball" size bump on the neck of one of our show heifers. It appears to be at the site of a vaccination that was given 4-5 weeks ago. If you touch it, it's obvious its causing the heifer some pain. We won't be showing the heifer for several months. Should we go ahead and lance it now, or just wait for it to go down?

if its hard, leave it be for a while.

Wait till it forms a soft spot on the lump and lance it to the lower end of the soft spot so it can drain.

you can alternate cold and hot compresses to stimulate flow of blood to hasten the process.
 
I'd just leave it especially if you aren't going to show the calf for a couple of months. We just bought a pony that had been kicked in the chest and had developed a lump on his chest. The seller said to lance it at the soft spot, but we decided to leave it alone. Two weeks have gone by and it is gone. Lumps at vacc sites is a common occurrance.

I would use cold and hot compress alternating. Massage it. My show steer had a these too. We use compresses, put him in the chute rubbed them (he didnt like it but a with in a couple days it was going down.)
 
Leave it. Some of the vaccinations leave lumps. Some may take a couple of months or so to go down. Do not lance it. Always vaccinate on the non-show side. Try to vaccinate 4 months or so prior to your shows.
