Labored breathing and lethargic?.?.?

Here's the case:

2 year old black baldie, seems to have labored breathing(real quick, almost like panting but with the mouth closed), lethargic at times, will set there and chew her cud(the same cud) by the water trough for what seems to be unusually extended periods of time.

I know it has been rather warm here in northern Texas lately but she had access to plenty of shade and plenty of water. I have noticed the quick breathing in another baldie as well but she appears to graze normal and never seems to be lethargic. None of the purebred Angus seems to be having any problems what so ever. My question it what could it be? Possibly pneumonia?

thats what I am gonna have to say. All the dust makes it that much worse and easier for them to get. Has nothing to do with the color. A true black baldie is a hereford x angus.

I know what a true baldie is ;-) , I just wanted to put all the facts out there so that everyone could draw there on conclusion. What should I try to vaccinate her with, penicillin? Would it hurt to go ahead and hit the whole herd with a shot to make sure none of the other's are carrying it?

OK, heavy bred in North texas heat. I'd definately be miserable. No matter how much shade I had.
Take her temp anyhow. But I'm betting she is just HOT!

i tend to agree with certherfbeef... but you are the only one that knows her habits... if she separates from the rest and stops grazing, then i think you have a problem. (unless its calving time :lol: ) you said she is only lethargic at times.. it is mighty hot right now and it will slow em down some. i get one from time to time like that... i just keep an eye on em and only treat if they get worse.
