the 7040 Kubota fits my budget. i would like to run a 15' pasture clipper...specs on the clipper say minimum 50 pto hp...the 7040 has 62 pto hp..but the tractor dealer says i need a 9045 (more money!!) has anyone used the 7040, or 8540 to run a pasture clipper (what size),,how about a vemeer 540 rebel...here again specs for the rebel say minimum 50 hp...

It isn;t a strictly horsepower kind of deal. The tractor has to have the mass to handle whatever size implemnt you put on it.

We have had a Kubota L4610 (46 pto hp.) a 9540 (90 pto hp) and currently an M125X (105 pto hp.) and I wouldn't suggest anything less than a 9540 for a 15' cutter and even then if you get in some thick brush/coastal you will tax the tractor pretty heavy. The 9540 is ideal w/a 15' cutter in light to medium maintance conditions. If you purchase the 7040 I would purchase a 10' cutter to use with it.
