Buy the breeder, not the breed. Every study that I've seen has found that reproductive efficiency is multiple times more important to the cow/calf producers bottom line than growth or carcass traits. If you are building a herd(I assume from progeny, which is what I would do),you can't neglect the maternal traits of the bull you buy.
