I don't want this to turn into I don't feed my cattle anything at all. I just want what everyone does with weaned heifers, cows that are nursing and loosing body condition. what have you found is the best year round feed program to keep them in bcs of around 6 year round.

i have my cows/heifers calf in dec. when my rye grass is up and going...I purchase a 21% protein feed pellet (corn gluten) for 109.00 per ton so I don't mind giving the cattle a bucket or two when ever I want to...20 lbs. is a $1.00.....I keep most of my cows off the grass until they calf..the last trimester i feed them 3 lbs of the pellets a day with free choice hay and minerals..they seem to do real good on this...When they are on the grass they don't need any feed , but i'll put some out every day or two just to keep the gentle...keep your grass fertilized to test...free choiceminerals and hay with about 7-10% protien and about 50% TDN...

Keep in mind that there are just some cows that aren't easy keepers.
Grass whenever ti's available, hay when it's snowed under or the grass gets short. Free choice minerals, when the weather is going to be extrememly low, either a protein tub or a pound or so of corn gluten a day.
