Keeping Trailer Lights In

All these new trailers have these lights that just press in the rubber grommets. They do not stay on on rough road.

Do yall have any tricks to keep them in or are yall having to change to another style light completely?

Drive slower . I can't keep my rear lower markers in. Might try silicone caulk next.

I'm debating getting a set of the wireless ones that are magnetic and will stick to any equipment or trailer I haul.

I like to have lights working on all my trailers, but there are times when one is burnt out and would be nice to have a redundant set in the truck I could throw on anything I tow.

Magnetic won't do the trick on an aluminum trailer though...

If the lights won't stay in the rubber grommet I doubt a magnetic light will stay on. No to mention the fact the magnet won't give you side marker lights, trailer brakes, etc.

Never had lights pop out of the rubber grommets even on log trucks that see lots of nasty roads and have a million lights on them. Properly seated on the rubber grooves I have trouble getting them out with a prybar.

Right, they can be a bugger to get out. Sometimes break them with screw driver trying to get them out

Put some silicon on the grommet before you push them in.

So I hate to ask.. but… are you pushing the light far enough into the grommet? Is it easy to accidentally push all the way through? Perhaps the hole was cut too large?

No that's a good point. This is that brand new trailer. It was hanging when I went to head home last week so I unplugged it and threw it in the back seat so it wouldnt get tore up. I need to put it back in myself and see what happens.

Ive read that if the hole is cut too big the grommet doesnt hold the light light enough.b

If its a new trailer tell them you want it replaced. The lights not the trailer

If its a new trailer you won't like this fix for the hole to big issue. We had a flatbed with one light on the head ache rack that wouldn't stay. Two thickness of gorilla tape around the hole (not the rubber) pretty much solved it.

They picture them on camper trailer which because of their size legally need side marker lights, front clearance lights, and working trailer brakes, I fail to see how any sort of magnetic stick on light will check those boxes?

I've got 2 sets of magnetic trailer lights one wireless and one wired for hauling equipment and stuff. And if your bouncing down a bumpy road you better have them zip tied or bungee corded as a backup to the magnet. At least the wired lights will drag by the wires for a short ways. Ha

I got another rubber grommet from where I bought it. They said try to put the grommet on the trailer and then slide the light in. If its put in with the light in it doesnt always fit in tight. They said if it comes out again after that let them know. Ill give it a try.

I ordered a set. Tried them out tonight. I’m a little nervous about the magnets staying on but they come with little cable loops that I can zip tie to the trailer for extra safety. The wireless lights part works great.

This is what I tried to explain at the start of this thread. Put the grommet in, put a dab of silcon on four or five spots around the grommet, slide the light in.
