I just bought new pair of dirt devil tires for the front of my 3010 mule. Two days later go thru some grass with a hayrake hitch hidden therein( I don't know who parked the thing ) ?? O.K.,,,I job a hole in the sidewall of my new tire. I go back to the dealer, nope can't fixit. I said Well I can, took the tire home and started to search for hot patches ( haven't seen or thought of in many years) nope can't find any. I nearly refuse to throw this in a brushpile, HELP! saw something about tire rivet patch, a stem sticks thru the hole and expands when released, ( patch on the inside holds in place.) Any ideas :cry2: or help would be appreciated.rcp
 
My hole was in edge of the side wall and the tread. I ran over a deer antler that made a 3 legged star burst type cut each leg about 1/2-3/4 inch, I used a full bottle of pink stop leak, enough for a full size truck tire (slime kind of stuff). When I sold the mule a couple of years later you could still see the pink outline of the cut/tear but the tire held up with no air leakage for that long. I did it to just get by from late saturday till I could get a new tire on monday, was amazed that it worked at all

I would try and find a (boot) for a big tire and put in and then like LRTX said put a tube in it. should hold just fine.
 
I have fixed tractor tires with tubes by thru bolting a piece of bailer belt. Use carriage bolts inside with washers and lock nuts on the outside. Gorrila tape the inside when your done. I like the liner and tube idea the best for a mule.
 
I have used recycled aircraft tires for years on the front off most of my tractors because of frequent flats from thorns. These tires are sealed with genseal tire sealant. Over the years I have never had a flat with this setup. The sealant is supposed to seal up to 1/4 inch holes and I realize you said that your tire has a 1/2 inch puncture. You may want to talk to these folks and get their opinion.

Have you considered having the skidsteer type tire sealant put in the tire to make the tire a "solid tire"?

A solid, i.e. very stiff tire on a mule will beat the dog crap out of you
