K&N air filters

Are the K&N filters worth the cost? Do you have to use their fancy replacement air intake systems to make it worth while or do the straight replacements do a decent job?

Dun, I'm not sure about gas engines, but on the diesel side, simply replacing the filter with a K&N buys you virtually nothing. The stock airboxes themselves are simply too restrictive.

I would also heavily recommend you look to something other than a K&N. We used K&N for about a year in the air systems we designed, until we got fed up with the quality. We had alot of issues with separation of the filter element from the seal, as well as alot of fine dust getting into the intake tube. I'd look at a UNI foam if I were you. The foam gives better filtration than the cotton gauze filters, while still maintaining air flow.

If you're not in a high dust environment, a standard aFe filter (not the ProGuard 7) will work ok for you. Stay away from the ProGuard series as they flow even less air than a paper filter, despite what their advertising says.

Just put a Fram on the wifes truck {G M C} and got 2
miles to the gallon more.The Last two trips up north.
The air box on the truck does not look too restrictive.

Been running a K&N in an F-150 for about five years with no problems. Had problems with the OEM filters coming apart, as have several other people. Never notice any dirt inside the air intake system as some people claim, wipes clean with a tissue. The main thing is to keep the filter clean and not over oil. Some claim to have problems with the oil getting on sebnsors, but none here. Some claim a mileage difference but it is very little, seems to improve acceleration a little. Been turning wrenches for over 20 years and don't have a problem using K&N filters.

Dont like anything about them dun, we throw them away and put the factory ones back on here at the car lot.

I've had one in my truck using the stock filter box for the last 250,000 miles or so and haven't had any problems except lately it's been so dry and dusty I've gone back to the throwaway kind since the K&N was getting caked up so bad and I'm out of cleaner and oil.

Did n't look bad had 40,000 on it. I was thinking the Fram
was more open.That's all

Read alot and yes, the K&N will do its job pretty well, if you keep the oil up in it, once the oil "wears" out in it, its just there as an orniment not doing anything. For this reason, on my 94 stroke I put This system in.

Read alot and yes, the K&N will do its job pretty well, if you keep the oil up in it, once the oil "wears" out in it, its just there as an orniment not doing anything. For this reason, on my 94 stroke I put this on.
