Just finished taking catalog photos

I just finished with the photos and catalog/sale order, worked all day and night yesterday to get the catalog ready. It will be nice when it is done. Kind of tough to get everything done with Christmas and New Year travels. Anyway, thought you might like to take a look at a handful of the photos.

Nice looking calves. Did they trim the hair on the tails prior to pictures or do you know?

Ya, we trimmed/cleaned up the heads and tails on all the bulls

I'm not use to angus nor the belly I see.

I kinda like our heifer bull more.

Bryan I like the 7517 bull the best, what kind of numbers does he have. I'm assuming he is a LCC Vaquero 1412J son or grandson. The Widespread bull looks good too but not a big fan of GMRA after calving for them.

I needed a Lim heifer bull. Ain't nothing better than an angus except a Red Pole. I sold him before he got off the trailer.

I think angus make good Lim hiefer bulls.

We got black Lims as well. I quess angus was in that as well. I don't care much for them when compared to the reds.

No disrespect, but that's the only thing I didn't like about them was the belly.

I guessing the bellies are an age thing especially if they have been on hay. I'm sure they will grow out and loose the round bellies.

I agree totally. That's what caught my eye - that all of them carried great CAPACITY.
BRG - did you take the pics? Did you set up a special holding place for the pics? VERY time consuming taking a good pic.

Nice pictures. Do you have all of the animals in one area when you take your pictures or do you isolate then? Any tips on taking these types of pictures that you would be willing to share? We will be needing to get some pictures for our spring sale.

Sorry guys, but bellies are important to me. I guess if you want pencil gutted animals, then they won't work for you. :)

As far as taking the pictures. I did take them myself. It is very time consuming. The photos are in the same pen that they are wintered in. This way they are comfortable with the area. I removed all the bulls from this pen, and then walked 1 at a time out and took his photo and then put him back when I finished. It is best if you have at least one other guy to help you get his attention and get the ears right. But they main thing is be slow, quiet, patient, and do not rush it at all. You are in their enviroment and they don't understand what you are trying to do. I did have cattle across the fence as well, that way they were not all by themselves either. Oh, and make sure you are using a digital camera, so you can delete the ones that don't turn out.

Thanks for the photog tips. My brother usually ropes me into helping him get pictures and there is a fair amount of cursing before we get it done. I am NOT a good photographer. He has a group of six this year and I am not looking forward to trying to get a good picture of each since none of these have been halter broke.
By the way nice group of bulls!

For the record I don't find anything wrong with their bellies, just seem like calves show more belly at this growth stage. Capacity is very important for selection, especially since we pasture BLM and native grass pastures. As I stated before I liked the bulls, I prefer the 7517 bull from all the pics.

Just look kinda pot bellied. I ain't use to that and don't see many like it. I wonder what Doc would say?

I ain't schooled in judging cattle but don't have any that slope up in the back like those. I prefer a big rectangle blocky body.
