I don't know about better but certainly sung by someone who's voice wasn't wrecked by booze and drugs.

That one sounds more like the original by Ed McCurdy, whom I believe wrote the song. have been trying to find a copy of it on the Web, I have a copy on the old 78rpm records. He used to play the Lute on a lot of his recordings and had an Elizabethan sound to his folk songs.
