Hello,

I hace a ranch in Central Texas, KEMI Limousin, we found out the hard way years ago. Johne's is prevelent in many herds, the only way to find and eliminate the problem is test your herd. We are Johne's Free, and Bovine Leucosis free in addition to Bangs and TB and we place just as much emphisis on those two diseases. Our recipient herd is also free of the disease. Our herd is essentialy closed, we test new aniamls that are purchased to varify that they are free as well.

You have found out the hard way, test and save yourself the financial loss, cull the animals that are possitive or questionable, and sell them as non-breeders so they go to slaughter, not into some commercial program. The only way to eliminate the problem is to remove and kill possitive animals, the same method used to eradicate bangs and TB. Texas Animal Health Control has info up on the web site.

Do a google search to learn more.

Or contact Dr. Rousell at TAMU, he did one of the first herd test reseach studies to determine the depth of the disease in Texas Commercial and Seedstock herds.
