I wasn't sure where to put this. Maybe the pasture post would be better. Today we did some spring tidying up of the yard. Not alot but some. We took the trash to the dump.
On our way there is where my beef lies.
I understand farmers make silage. I understand that they use plastic to wrap their bales.
What i don't understand is why they don't clean up the mess. A farmer with land not a yard site close to us wraps and leaves rows across the road from our pasture. Over the winter he hauls them home as he needs them. Today with the strong SE wind it ended up in our fence, pasture and the bush.
Our cattle graze there.
Now my kunundrum, do we call and politly ask him to get the rest before the wind has more fun? Or do we do the neighborly thing and ignore?

I believe I would do both - that is - have a friendly chat with the neighbor, but be prepared for it to have no effect and have a plan in place to get the plastic picked up before it did any damage.

Is this the first time it's happened? If so, clean it up yourself. If it happens again, it may be time to have a talk.

If the are bags blowing around his own pasture and he does not care if they blow into yours, that makes him a lazy bum that counts on someone else to clean up after him. The only real way to "get the message across" to him is to hand them directly to him.
The next time call the sheriff.
I make my kids pick up their own mess, why would I clean up after my neighbor?
 
I'd give the farmer a call and let him know about the problem.
( Individual chunks of plastic or tubeline strips )?

If he didn't move it right away I would call the town, and have them pick up what is on their side of the fence right now. The municipality may have a word with the farmer after having to pick up after him.
 
this is a yearly right of passage for us. Just getting tired of cleaning up the garbage from his hay field.
i should just get up the nerve and politely call him...
 
A polite phone call might do the trick. But calling the law would be last thing I would do. I have a couple of neighbors that had a small disagreement and one called the police on the other. Now anytime one of them burps the other calls the cops. Its petty and rediculous.
 
I would call the guy....Say man! all that plastic blowing around looks awful. Then ask him how things are going? Stop by for coffee.

It seems to me that if he gave a flip about who was picking up his garbage, the problem would not exist in the first place.
 
I'd pick up what ended up on my property and take it to hikm. I'd tell him that I didn't know if he reuses them or if he normally threw them away, but here they are in case he reuses them. Also tell him that you noticed they are in your fence if he wants to reuse them too.
 
I've got a friend that can turn a sticky situation into a good one. He actually sold used cars for a couple of weeks and was really good at it. Just couldn't handle the moral part. Anyhow, he turns enemies into friends. Don't go at this with a negative attitude. Approach him with some deal or a beer. Imagine a neighbor showing up at your place being an ass telling you what you did wrong. Most folks approach a problem with "I'm right and I'm mad so I'm gonna chew butt". Look at your objective and figure the best way to it. If honey don't work then get mad.

I agree with you TxWalt.. gotta approach it with a positive attitude.. and if that doesnt work.. then do something different.
 
take em to his house and drop em in the road out front. then hey blow into his place...i do the same with his dogs if they come sniffin. ya gotta let em see ya do it though. depends if ya care if yall are friends or not...can ya count on em if ya need em??
 
Befriend him with a positive attitude and explain to him your concerned that your cattle might choke on the plastic wrap
