I've been a little busy lately...

It's been a busy fall here. We had frost two nights ago and my mom in law and I picked all of this. I have an unbelievable crop this year considering how dry it was. Here are a few pics of the display area. I live right on a busy highway so there is pretty good traffic.

That's a heap of pumpkins! I always love seeing pumpkins in the Fall. How long will those keep before going bad?

Thanks for the comments. Those kitties aren't tame but posed for the pic. It is my hope that the pumpkins last all fall, no reason not to if it is a good pumpkin.

How do you sell pumpkins? By size? Color? Shape?

I wouldn't have a clue how to price them. :oops:

I price by size for the regular orange pumpkins $1-$5 for most and $8 for the really big Big Max or extra large Jacks. This year pumpkins that are selling for $2 would have been $3 last year. Supply and demand you know.

I do wish I was a little closer to say Sioux City or Sioux Falls (my closest big cities), but I do just fine here. We had our Clay County Fair last week (312,000 visitors) and I was really busy selling.

I don't worry about having leftovers, our cows come running when I throw some over the fence. When we turn them out to the field for the fall, they will stay in the corn maze and punkin area for a good week before venturing out into the other 150 acres.

I heard that pumpkins were going to be scarce and expensive this year. Maybe just around here. We usually buy about 30 of them and use them all over for Halloween and Thanksgiving. We have an old horse-drawn manure spreader and we put the pumpkins in it and all around. Guy we buy from gives us a deal because we get so many. When we had longhorns, they liked to eat them.

We finally are down to the last two pumpkins...our youngest son traded for a truck load...just to have the perfect carving pumpkin.
Cows won't touch them...chickens love em and have been eating two a day all month...best eggs all year.

Susie wants to plant a acre next year just for the hens.

Funny :lol: I've been feeding the chickens a half dozen pumpkin and squash a day. Chickens love it and seem to do well.

lots of pumpkins for us to and had no idea what to do with them. so they went to the chickens. I knew they loved zuccini, but wow they love pumpkins too.
