I'm having a 38' X 70' shed built to hold some extra equipment. Everything looked good until they started to set the trusses. The building is 38' wide on one end, and 39' wide on the other. :shock:

They have to remove the trusses, headers, purlins, poles and reset everything except for one wall. They are starting to tear it back down now and the auger truck is supposed to be here at 2 to reset the poles.

At least I'm not the only one who occasionally screws up. :D

That sucks and was totally avoidable.

They admitted they had a 100' tape that the first 6" got chopped off. Apparently some times the guy on the "dumb" end started a foot, the next time he started at 2 feet. :roll:

The tape is now permanently buried 4' deep and will no longer be able to cause problems...

That was the absolute biggest building that would fit on the spot.

Apparently, you were wrong. Looks like a 38-39 x 79 fits just fine. :mrgreen:

That is completely unacceptable and there is absolutely no excuse for that. You measure, layout, re measure, start framing, re measure, frame walls, re measure, brace, and re measure again. It only takes a minute to check stuff like this. Sorry for your misfortune.

That's my problem, but I don't want to be left behind.

I'm in the same boat. This newer stuff definitely has its place. But I don't know how to use it and I don't generally accept change too well. I don't even own a laser level. We still use a transit. My kids know more about my phone than I do. But every once in a while I will venture out and try some new gadget. Kinda like I finally broke down and bought a foam marker for my sprayer this year, while everyone else has already been using GPS for ten years :lol: I'm behind on the times, but technology comes at a cost.

I'm sure it's EXACTLY 38 feet on one end and EXACTLY 39 feet on the other... they probably did re-measure and thought "It can't be off a foot, and it's right on the money for 39!

When I measure smaller stuff I start the tape at 10" rather than 1" so I can see I've messed up more easily... Had they cut their 100 ft tape measure at 9 (So you hold the dumb end at 10'), it probably wouldn't have happened either.

My dad has often blamed the rivets on the tape measure for hanging up.. never had it happen to me yet.

Good thing concrete hadn't been poured in the floor yet!

Well there was a change of plans. Instead of tearing down 2 walls they have decided to dig holes adjacent to the poles, pour a base of concrete and then slide the walls (with the trusses and purlins attached) onto the new pads. They are moving both 70' side walls instead of one 70' side wall and the 38' end wall.

Yesterday they got the new holes drilled and they promptly filled with water. Don't know how they plan to keep the water out to pour the new base. These bases need to be perfect as the poles are already cut to height with the headers on.

This is a pretty big construction company so I am not doubting their abilities, but I would have thought it would be quicker-cheaper to tear down and start again than to frog around trying to slide the walls? :roll:
