Had two new calves this week, and we are DONE!
This pair is an interesting story. The cow is a 2 year old embryo, sired by Built Right out of a Coleman Camp angus cow, so half blood. She was later maturing, and cycled later than any simmental heifer we have raised. We finally got a heat on her in the summer (about 16 months old), AI'd her one time. She did not stick, and I did not want to lose more time (I like all my heifers to calve by the time they are two). So I put an embryo in her. She stuck it. This calf of hers is actually her brother; same exact embryo as her. I bought 3, got all three to stick! I have a late fall heifer that is a flush mate to both of these. So, she is raising her full brother!!!!!
Consequently, he was 76 pounds at birth. She has a gorgeous udder, and is being a great mommy.
