If this really is alfalfa, I feel like I might as well be asking you all what corn looks like :)
I'm trying to get better at identifying everything growing in my pastures so thanks for the help

 
I don't know what it is... ironweed family seems a reasonable guess.
You haven't mentioned location, but if you really want to identify and learn about problem weeds your local Ag.
extension agent or state university may have handouts available on the most common pasture and roadside weeds
in your area and how to control them.

Could well be--iron weed is not a weed I'm familiar with on my place, but I spray enough that nothing much gets mature enough to bloom except some early blooming ground huggers. I have seen verbena growing along the rural highways before.
