Good Night everyone,
Does it matter what breed of cattle is used for beef or breeding production on an island? for example one of the islands of the Bahamas? What would be the best options? Knowing some breeds are more susceptible to either rainy or dry weather conditions.

Please advise

Thanks
Regards

Well the short answer yes.
Short hair is much better than long hair. Cattle indigenous to hot temp climates will do much better than say cattle from Scotland.
Ex. Brahman or their crosses will out preform Highlander's

I have seen cows on Andros island, and maybe Long island also. And they had lots of Bramer influence for sure.

I've seen cattle in Puerto Rico and they have the brama but the one that struck my fancy is the Senepol. If you do some googling about Puerto Rico cattle I think you will find a lot of information you may find helpful.

Thank you to everyone for all of the positive responses. Much appreciated, will continue asking questions once i am ignorant about any subject related to cattle
