I normally do my daily irrigation chores first thing in the morning. It involves pulling some tarp dams out of the ditch and moving them a hundred feet or so and setting them once again. Maybe opening or closing off a ditch. Potentially I could have up to 10 tarps to move although I never have that many going at the same time. There are 11 different ditches to open or close.
This morning I have 2 tarps to move and one ditch to open up and set a tarp in it. The trouble is that it is 40 degrees and raining. Do those tarps really need to be moved this morning? How much fun would it be riding the quad through grass as tall as the quad this morning when it is all wet. Could this wait until after church? It might stop raining by then. Questions I am asking myself right now.
On the bright side, although the majority of the place is flood irrigated I do have one field that I pump water on through a hard hose reel. The big gun on that reel needed to get sent off to the shop for a rebuild. So for two weeks that field would get no water. Well God is taking care of that irrigation now. The bunch grass on the range is still green so this rain is helping the hills stay green. When you live in a 10 inch rainfall area you can't complain too loudly about the rain.
