Irish Blacks

Does anyone here raise Irish Blacks? Am interested in them, but know little about them.

I have no personal experience with Irish Blacks, or Black Irishes for that matter.

Dicke Ranch in Ewing, NE is selling 600 IB half bloods on 1/25, their ad with a 'fact sheet' is in this week's Midwest Messenger. I have no idea how to create a link to it here from my phone.

They published some data from the Sandhills Cattle Assc. Performance and Carcass Contest. ADG on their 3 steers 4.46 vs avg. of 3.67 for all steers. They also list some carcass results and fertility data.

I dont know about that ALACOWMAN........the worst skeeters I ever faced was up in Canada and northern Minnisota. Those suckers were as big as hummingbirds and looked like a hoard of locust from an old B rated movie. I got my 4 wheeler stuck in some mud near Atikokan, Ontario. When the tires started spinning it stirred up a cloud of skeeters so thick I had to abandon the 4-wheeler and make a run for our bear camp. Brought a truck back plus full clothes and a skeeter face net and winched it out. I'll never forget those things.

well guess i think of the south and gulfcoast areas, when it comes to skeeters.... i know how they, and flies love the black hides... alot of cooling blood right there at the surface, for the taking..

I have no idea that Irish black cattle existed in U.S....

That said, the skeeters are much worse in Central Minnesota than northern Minnesota.

Here in MN, if you see skeeters the size of hummingbirds get to shelter quick because the big'uns aint far behind.

No. I knew a fella named Garth Stromberg and the owner of Canoe Canada Outfitters.

Yes. I killed a nice one with my bow. There was 7 of us in camp and we took 6 bears that week. All archery hunting.

Where are you two when I need you! Bears weren't too bad for us this past year, but heck...your so close..most years I could hook you up with some trophy bears.

Aaron, don't Americans have to hire an outfitter to hunt in Canada?

A guide, yes. Luckily I have a fellow from Atikokan that hunts here every fall with his father and brother that does a lot of guiding. And I know he guides Americans because he has guided a bunch of fellows known locally as 'The Georgia Boys' up here on our place and others.

Several times in the interim I have answered requests for information on this breed, and it just seemed to "wither on the vine", so to speak. So - - I will answer this request - one - more - time, and hope that the sarcasm and lack of knowledge regarding these cattle will subside! I interviewed all of the breeders listed on this site, personally, and saw the cattle concerned. The Breeders, without exception, were enthusiastic and excited about them, and sang their praises exponentially. Therefore, anyone who might be even slightly interested in discovering some information about "Irish Blacks and Irish Reds" - log onto "Irish Blacks and Irish Reds.com" and investigate all of the information located there.

These are line-bred genetics from BEFORE the time when Aberdeen Angus genetics went "pony type" in the "Nineteen Forties". There are 'political' reasons why the breed has not become popular, famous, and extremely valuable in the Beef breeding community - NOT genetic reasons! Search out the cattle, not the personal differences which existed - back when.

I think that it is past time for this breed to take it's rightful place in the Beef breeding community on its own merits, and not suffer unduly for the mistakes in merchandising and promoting which were made in the past.

Does that mean that Maurice has decided to stop wiping the rearend of every Irish Black cow or bull with his Copyright papers..

I have no idea that Irish black cattle existed in U.S....

Why wouldn't they exist in the US they were developed here by a man named Maurice Bonny the main genetic source was as i understand it friesien(beef type).
