whats the word on intranasal vaccines ? too expensive, don't work, ??? i sure want to do something different.. i'm tired of causing knots in my calves' necks...

They don't cover every disease out there... the main intranasal vaccine is Nasalgen for PI3/BRSV, which is great for those diseases but doesn't protect against BVD or IBR. I do think Nasalgen is great and I've heard others say they like it too. I don't notice any lumps when using a modified live vaccine (Bovishield Gold) but the standard clostridial vaccinations (7- and 8-way) seem to leave quite a lump. What are you using?

I used Onset last spring and it seemed to work very well. They had problems with the potency of something in the vaccine so they recalled it and according to my local supplier they still haven't gotten it back on the shelf. I've been told nasal is the best route to administer vaccines as they are readily absorbed in the nasal region. Just as a note, the knot created by your injections is a good thing. Means it is working the way it is supposed to.

The only intra-nasal we use is TSV-2 to aid in the prevention of pneumonia (given the first day the little calf is on the ground).

To minimize knots in the neck... simply rub the area with the fist of your hand for 5 to 10 seconds after giving the shot (particularly shots that are clostridial with the tetanus integral with the vaccine)

I think on the Onset IN the IBR part of it wasn't holding up. We used TSV-2 for years, but now are using Nasalagen, since it's been labeled to put the whole shot up one nostril, just a little quicker.

We have used both on calves before shows. Seems like they work but sometimes I wonder who is most vaccinated, calves or us. Now they see us comming, its a lot of fun, snottin at us before we start. LOL
