Living here in the middle of no where a person just doesn't see many people. But occasionally I run into some interesting ones. I was taking a quick spin up the canyon. On the road just off my place and on to the BLM. A guy with a map in hand flagged me down. He wanted to know how far it was to Bridgeport. And he asked if it was OK to camp where he was as he had put in a long day driving. He obviously wasn't from the USA. So I asked where he was from. Turned out he is French but is living in Brazil. He likes mountains and was out sight seeing on back roads. He had been over around Missoula MT and started today at Stanley ID. Headed to the Cascade range and wants to end up at Mt Hood. Had a pretty interesting although struggling at times conversation. He speaks 4 languages and admits English is his worse.

He asked how cold it got at night. Seems it got down to 40 up in the hills by Stanley the night before. Told him it has been around 60. When I left he was putting up a hammock. About 9:00 we had a thunder storm pass through. Not a lot of rain but enough to get you wet sleeping out on a hammock. I didn't think to warn him about that possibility. Didn't tell him about the rattle snakes either.
 
We had a feller from France and his wife not sure if she was from France or not originally, stayed at our BnB last year.
Seemed like good folks. That man didn’t appear to be an avid outdoorsman, he wanted to meet us and talk some but he wanted to talk inside where there was air conditioning. I don’t think he liked the summer heat much.
 
Probably a good thing. Ya don't want to do anything to encourage people to immigrate here from 'Frawnce'. "Snails sir...why aren't snails on your menu??"

Young men, the benefit from an old man that's traveled the 7 seas.. date a French woman and you will find out the meaning of hirsute.
And that's all I have to say about that..

A couple days ago there was a road killed rattle snake right where the the French guy spent the night. I guess I should have warned him about the snakes. Oh well it was a small snake.
 
Picked up a hitchhiker in Denver and dropped him off in St. Louis. I went to Louisville, Kentucky for about three days and started north to Pennsylvania... and this same hitchhiker was thumbing on the road. Picked him up and dropped him in Pittsburgh.
He was from New Zealand.
And he was a little guy. Probably a hundred pounds...
