I have 3 show cow embryo transfer calves this year. They were all due on March 14th. We had one born on the 11th, a heifer, 90lbs. The second one was born yesterday the 15th. He was at least 110 and had to be pulled and did not come out easy to say the least.

The third Recip still hasn’t calved. I know some people who induce recips right around there due date, and some who just let them go on there own time. I’m just worried with how big this last dude was that the next one will be even bigger. What’s everyone’s thoughts on having her induced or not?

I don't have recips so I got nothing for you. Most of the time I don't even know when the bull covered them.

I think it strange that people are concerned about it though. The calf will come when he or she is ready.

All my cows that carry for themselves I just let do whatever, and they’ll be ready whenever.

ET calves just come out 10-20% bigger and it doesn’t always end well with them. I’ve came across some people who just let them be, and some who induce for them to calve on there due date.

What about those who don’t risk a natural birth, and automatically schedule a c section? That club calf thing is a tough business.

For sure. As people say, club calf’s aren’t really built to come out of a cow.

I just worry about this last cow with how big the bull calf was

She calved today! Had a big black heifer we had to pull. Both are doing good

I don’t play with the club calf thing, but I have induced cattle before.
20cc dexamethzone and within 36hrs your going to get a calf.

Our vet said he did a C-section on a Hereford this spring that was 20days over. The calf weighed 132lbs.

Reminds me a friend that was into the clubby calves. C-section. C-section. C-section.

Vet had to really work on one the last time and he grabbed the leg/hoof of that ginormous calf that was hanging out of the cow and shook it at my buddy. He said. THIS IS WHY WE DONT DO THIS!!

The one that was the biggest, was 1 day overdue, and a bull calf.
The other big one was 3 days overdue and a heifer calf which was kinda a surprise lol. But Embryo Transfer calves are known to go overdue.

Clubbys are definitely a completely different deal than commercial cows.

We have got into some long ones with recips this spring. One went 18 days over 118 pound heifer. Flush mate to her 90 pound bull week over. Have heard ivf take longer? One ivf came 4 days early

I’ve heard IVF calves get a lot bigger. I think a lot of people induce them to calve on there due date with IVF.
We just do conventional embryos. It’s crazy how different they can be with being flush mates.
