Indigestion

I know there has got to be someone out there that has had problems with this and has a solution. I have been suffering from severe indigestion for about 2 years now. It has gotten to wear I can't hardly sleep at night (belching and bloated). My doctor currently has me on Nexiem and I haven't seen the least bit of results. I have tried numerous things. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Had a little bought of it back a few weeks. Made me cranky and mean couldn't sleep at night, had to apologize to a few people.
Finally took my hard headed azz to the doctor.
The prescription zantax took a few days but did the trick. I feel like a million bucks. :cboy:

How long have you been taking the Nexium? If its been 2 years with no relief, with all due respect, you need to find a new Dr.

There are any number of other things that could be causing your problems besides acid production and reflux.
Many of them are dietary.
Generally they will put you on an elimination diet to rule things out. Dairy, wheat, legumes are common culprits.
Do you take other meds? Including otc and suppliments.
Are you diabetic or insulin resistant. If so, talk to your diabetes counselor/nutritionist.
Any other health issues? Liver, gallbladder, respiritory, etc.
These are some of the other things that a Dr. should be looking for if you have been on the Nexium for more than about a month.

Ive been on the Nexium for about three months, went out of town for a week and left it home. Couldn't tell any difference. Maybe I need another doctor idk, I have no other health issues and not a diabetic. Thanks guys, fenceman Im going to try that zantax, don't have anything to loose at this point. If that helps then maybe I can get some sleep and start apologizing to people! haha

I would like all who have chronic indigestion or heartburn to do some hard research on something called GERD

DON'T minimize it as 'just indigestion' or 'just a little heartburn' if you have it a lot. Indigestion/heartburn is from acid reflux.
It can and often does lead to very serious complications.
Barretts Disease is one of the offshoots of it, and it basically means the stomach acid has eaten away the lining of the lower esophagus, and the esophagus makes a new lining, same lining as the lower intestine. Barretts is one of the most common precursors to esophageal cancer.
My twin had heartburn and indigestion for years--right up until the day he was diagnosed with cancer. He popped tums/rolaids/pepcid ac everyday, never realizing the trouble that was brewing down below.

I have family members who have had to adjust to gluten free diets to help with the exact symptoms you describe. It has made a huge difference for them, and they don't need the drugs anymore. Might be worth looking into.... :2cents:

Try probiotics. I had some digestive issues a few years ago and started taking them every so often and finally switched to making my own sauerkraut using a probiotic pill as a starter culture and eating a little bit every few days and a lot of minor health stuff I was dealing with that I didn't realize was related went away fairly quickly.

If you have Johnson Grass in your area chewing some green Johnson grass and swallowing the saliva will knock it out before you can turn around. Have done it many times and it always worked.

Tablespoon or two of baking soda. Use for immediate, temporary relief.... But only until you find the cause. Too much is bad for you. Don't take baking soda if you have heart problems.

You need to find a good gastrointestinal Dr.
Could be lots of things I suffered horribly for over a year till I went to the best Dr. In the area.
I had every diagnosis under the sun and all of them wrong.
He was the only one that looked and really tested until he found it to be due to diabetic issues.
Eating the radio active oatmeal doesn't taste that good.

Cut out the diary could be lactose problem. Also any soft drinks and any alcohol and report back to me in a week.

Well this is a topic that I have had lots of experience with! :yuck:
I (and most of my family) have years worth of problems with GERD. My sister had surgery to tighten the opening of the esophagus to help control the reflux, which in turn created other problems.
I have been on Protonix for years myself. The Enterologist had given me several things to do to help decrease symptoms. I have done them all! Lost weight, changed my diet, sleep with your head elevated, yadda yadda yadda. Nothing has eliminated it. I had some testing done with a Nasogastric tube for 24 hours at home to document what was going on. As it turns out, my Esophageal spasms are so severe that the surgery to stop the reflux will not even work.

Like others have said, you need a good gastroenterologist.
GB did a very good job summarizing the dangers of ignoring or self medicating for an on going problem! Please heed his warning. It can be very serious if left unchecked!

Ok, to make matters worse. The preliminary studies out on all these meds that are in use to control GERD are showing a 40% increase in Dementia. Now this is just a "preliminary " study. But still a scary bit of information. These meds are not designed to be taken long term, yet this is a long term illness for many people. :( i.e. Prevacid, Zantac, Protonix, Nexium.

Have you had a colonoscopy , that is only way to know what's going on in there, had one done years ago when I had that problem , discovered I had hiatal hernia, Prevacid is the only anti acid that will work for me.
Have several friends that would be alive today if they had had the recommended procedures To be done at certain ages, that being a colonoscopy and prostrate exam.

Have you had a colonoscopy , that is only way to know what's going on in there, had one done years ago when I had that problem , discovered I had hiatal hernia, Prevacid is the only anti acid that will work for me.

Johnson grass has the "potential" to have prussic acid in it. Small amounts do not harm humans.

Colonoscopy is on the wrong end to check for hiatal hernia.

Unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Naaaasty, but my husband swears by it & is off RX Prilosec for a hiatal hernia. That is, after you see your doctor :)
