I hope they do, Although I doubt it will happen, they been talkin' about doing this back when deisel hit 1.75 a gallon. You hear alot over the CB radio at the truck stops and such. I think something needs to be done though for sure. I don't see how any independant trucker can stay afloat with these prices.
 
A friend of who is a independent brought his truck home and parked it about two weeks ago, agent booked him a load that liked 300 dollars paying it fuel.
 
I was in 2 of those truck shut down's back in the 70,s. One closed down the Ohio turnpike and the National guard was called out to clear the turnpike. The whole problem is all truckers won't shut down.I don't think for a minute that Schnieder or JB Hunt would shut down there trucks.
But on the other hand if all trucking companies stood together it would certainly bring this nation to it's knees.

I have parked my diesel truck for what it is worth. I just drive the Jeep everywhere. Diesel here this morning was $3.93. Guess I will only be able to drive it a couple times a year to haul calves to market.

So, does everyone think record profits by the oil companies is still fair?
 
we talked about fuel prices an trucks yesterday.my brother was wanting to go back to driving a dump truck for the 3rd time.the trucks are making $50 an hr so thats $400 a day or $2000 a wk.but then he figured the fuel on the truck.an that came to $1200 a week or more.an that only left like $800.so he decided he didnt want todo that.
 
Remember folks, Our crude from Prudhoe Bay is going to the Pacific Rim. They need a new refinery on the West coast. That might happen when gasoline hits 5-6 dollars a gallon. I say MIGHT. :o

Where do you live........I need your brother @ $50 a load.

I need 185 yards of stone for my road. I found the stone at $25 a yard, ($4,625 total) but the lowest bid by any trucker here is $135 a load, this for a 12-yard dump. That's roughly 16 loads, $2160 just to haul from a pit 15 miles away.

Filled the dually yesterday, it's got a 60-gal tank. Took 53 gal @ $3.81/gal. $201.93.........ouch. Got to get the 500-gal farm diesel tank filled, about an eigth tank left and headed into spring-summer tractor season, afraid to even call for that one.

I don't blame the truckers at all if they do strike.................but, best I get the farm tank filled quick though before they do strike. I remember well the last mess and fuel lines. and the stations up to 40 miles away with not a drop to sell.
 
he is out of the trucking biz now.sold his 3rd truck a few years back.everytime things go up he sells the truck an quits.$135 a load is a tad high for a 12yrd rig.surely theres some 15yrd rigs in your area.
 
lotta dumps for sale and sittin round here too...

if yer need in it hauled ya better do it yerself cuz ya cant afford to pay no one anymore.

Somethings got to give, best bet now is not to be a owner operator, be a company driver for a bit.

I agree with one or two of the comments above about truckers not sticking together and therefore it won't work. I am against organized unions, I think folks ought to think and act for themselves. Having said that I am all for a shut down. Same could be said for ranchers and the price they receive at market for their product. Hold the cattle off the market for a few weeks and see what happens. (probably nothing - the sluaghter houses would just bring in Mexican beef.)

OK, so a strike called by the truckers might have some impact on the oil company profits. But is this where the "gouging" (there's that word again) is coming from? I've heard that the wall street jerks, you know, those folks who have never worked a day in their life, are driving the price up, not the oil companies. If that's true, how do you get their attention?

IMHO it's greed by a few folks who are doing the damage to all of us. I don't like it but I don't know what to do about it.
 
the 1s striking would be the O/Os not the company drivers.an a strike wouldnt get them anywhere.but if would most likely cause them to lose their jobs.because the company could go out an buy more trucks an trailers.an hire more driversthe dairymen tryed that back in the 60s.an they lost their right to ship milk to their milk companies.an they had to sell their cows for weigh prices.
 
Not ta mention the 70 or so cents per gallon fuel tax being siphoned off by the government :mad: :mad: :mad:
 
My dad is an O/O... and I talked to him about a week or two ago. The way he tells it, truckers don't have to worry about going on strike or filling their tanks. Freight is slow. He said there was probably close to 100 trucks sitting where he was, most waiting for freight. His dispatcher said he had over 100 trucks sitting across the country waiting for loads. The freight is way slow.... dad has been trucking for over 40 years. He said it is the the "r" word, and it is just starting... hasn't even grabbed 2nd gear yet.

Truckers strike won't do anything except maybe create a lull in the sale of diesel and a shortage of everything else nationwide. In the meantime all your food stores run out of merchandise, your bars run out of beer and your fertilizer plant has no fertilizer. Guess then we can all sit down at the green fly cafe and complain about bein' hungry. Ooops...sorry it's closed...not trucks nor nothing to sell either.

No it won't happen, all that will happen is that they will increase the charge per mile to haul, which will increase everyones groceries, etc, but that seems to be what will have to happen for those hard working truckers to make their way in this world. The high cost of fuel to them, will be passed on to all of us, one way or another.Can't blame them, if I could get more per cwt for my milk I would do it too.
