In-breeding coefficient: guidelines & do you use this?

OK, our first ET flush is lined up and ready to be bred today. She is my husband's cow and we have 2 options in the tank ready-to-go... the cow is bellowing loud enough to raise the dead so we have to finalize the decision shortly!

For those breeding seedstock, how do you use "in-breeding coefficient" and are there any magic guidelines you follow? I am wondering how you use this to evaluate your breeding decisions, in a case where you are not specifically looking to line-breed? Is it high on your consideration list, or just something you check for interest. Any "golden rules" for this measure, and how many generations do you feel are needed to have in the evaluation to consider it a good measure?

Your thoughts?
 
Im on a path of breeding them as tight as you can. I don't even consider IBC a consideration as it will take you a good while to get to a causionary state. Theres some functional Angus that are in 40% range. Me personally, Ill never buy a bull again. I inject new genetics from the dam side and use my top performing bull calf each year as a sire candidate going forward - A Jim Lent philosophy If you will. Id breed her back to her sire or her dams sire or a half brother. As my old man always says- Dance with who brung ya.
 
I wouldn't worry about it for wagyu. Your goal in breeding wagyu is to produce quality and MARBLING. No matter how close bred your herd is, they are outcross to every other breed out there.

BUT - - bear in mind - whatever factors, traits and characteristics you are focusing on, if you consider MARBLING only (and with Wagyu that is certainly high on the selection list!), it is SINGLE TRAIT SELECTION decisions that seem to overshadow other traits and characteristics. Remember the MULTIPLE TRAIT SELECTION Protocols in your total thinking process! BALANCE all of the primary important traits in figuring the ultimate end product ALONG WITH marbling!
