im new to the whole idea of implants but was thinking about starting using them..anyone have any ideas and which ones work best with the best results??

We used revalor 200 this year in our cattle, never really tested before/after as we implant everything but with these they are Estrogen and Testosterone so dont have to put certain ones into certain sexes, just put the same thing in all of them.

i have used ralgro in my steer calves, i don't implant heifers. i give them one when they are born and i am banding, or i do it the first time i work them at 3 months. then again at weaning if i am going to keep them. i started when my sons were showing calves in the fair. then i read that if you band and implant you get the same results as delayed castration.

Are the implants suppose to make them gain weight ? And how do you go about putting them in or do you have to have a vet do it ? And how exspensive is it ? And how much extra weight gain can be exspected verse not using the implants ?

Calves should gain between 25-30 lbs. And you can do it yourself. Its easy, they are injected under the skin on the back of the middle part of the ear.

around here the gun cost around $20 and has instuctions, the implants come in a wheel ($30) with the dose already measured out. you put them under the skin behind the ear

Yeah goes right between the two layers of skin in the ear, our calves are at least weaning age before we put them in, after a couple and a sharp needle its fairly easy.
