As many of you know i am retired from Forestry. Spent a lot of time on fires all over the south and west to Texas and Oklahoma.
I also drove a truck delivering horse trailers for a while and more recently drove a fuel truck both daily and to hurricanes and other disasters. I get bored easily i guess.
Tonight i typed up an advertisement for a job as a water tanker driver for wildland fires. Im 100% qualified and can stay gone for a month or more.
By the time i finished typing it up i decided i needed to delete it because i knew an offer would come by morning.
How do you say enough is enough and as CB stated it is the End of an Era? I feel if i just quit and sit around i wont last long. Its not about the money either because i can live without ever working again.

The only thing I miss since I retired is the cows...

I once tried to find excuses for road trips. I'd pick up and drive to anywhere... and did... several times. New York to LA, Florida to Seattle. I should have entered the Cannonball because I've driven some miles in times most people don't imagine can be done. Even snow was fun. But those days are now stories to remember and I have projects at home.

Damn, if you aren't driving, I guess that Buc-ees will go out of business. 🦫

Don't your cows keep you busy?

I got low on cows last year when i had to have surgeries. Keep saying im gonna buy more but at these prices its not gonna happen. I need 25 cows and 40 steers. At the current prices i just aint gonna do it. I only have 52 head right now and more grass than they can possibility eat.

Just because you’re not working doesn’t mean you quit. Go fishing with friends you been saying you would fish with for years. Go see people you just want to see or places you just want to go. Get everything ready so I got no choice but to come bear hunting with you this year since you are all set up. Can’t take money with you just leave memories behind for friends and family. To much fun stuff to do to piss life away working my friend.

At this point in your life, take time to do what you enjoy. If you enjoy driving, then drive! All retired means is that you are no longer actually working for a paycheck, you get to do what you enjoy. I'm taking a weeks vacation next week. I'm going to a grazing conference in the Tri-cities in Washington State (I don't think I'll get to visit @Dave though, but I'll be somewhat close). I'm doing this entirely on my dime as it's what I love. Yes, grazing is my profession, but they say that if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life. Retirement won't stop me from being a grazing specialist.

Who is putting on the grazing conference? Speakers? If you are driving I-84 you will be about 5 miles from my house. You can't see my house from the freeway but if you knew where you were looking you can see a lot of my property from there.
I was just up to the Tri-cities a couple weeks ago. Had a granddaughter playing in the high school state championship game for girls fast pitch. It is about a 3 - 3.5 hour drive from here.
