I'm hot (Pizzed off) need advice

Last year I bought and new Kubota L4400 tractor, Yesterday I bought a new 5 ft lands Pride bush hog from the same dealership, was delivered today, so not to side track my problem it was big $$$ for me. Went in to pay for it this morning and and paid cash, they had it loaded on a flat bed with a tilt bed it was closest to the cab so he could get the other two deliveries on and off first. He got to my place an took off the straps, I asked him how he was going to unload it, he said "tilt the bed and it'll be fine".... yes it slid off the side of the bed at least 3.5 to 4 feet off the ground, hit the ground hard, when it hit I could see the blades, it could have as easy landed on it's top. It came down to rest on the tilted bed and he had to drive out from under it and it fell another 2 to 2.5 feet. Nothing is bent... but.... I did talk to the manager and he offered to change out the gear box but he said they are built like a tank. He knows this is not the way to deliver and product. My question is what do I watch for??? u- joints etc.

I think a new cutter is in order.......or cancel the check. Have something available to unload it if you get a replacement or haul it yourself.

Alan, I know they are tough as I also own one. Why did'nt you use your front end loader to unload the Hog?

Well hind sight is 20/20, and I was not the "professional" delivering the mower. To tell you the truth it all happened in less then 5 minutes. I paid the dealership, their driver has been with them for years and he was not a kid. To ask why "I" didn't use "my" front loader is not a valid question, if I had any idea what would have happened I would have insisted... I would think he has delivered many more than the ONE I have purchased.

I'd insist on an extended warranty, you could get an exchange, but how do you know that the bushhog wasn't unloaded exactly like that when it came from the factory to the dealership?

would have told him that I bought a brand new mower.....
not one that had been dropped off of a truck......
load it up and take it back......

While the cutter is probably not damaged, I would likely try for an exchange, just as a matter of principle. Farm equipment dealers around here are a pretty independent lot, mostly due (I think) to the lack of competition locally.

When the dealer in Giddings picked up my tractor for repairs, they charged me for 1 1/2 hours at $80, AND 1 1/2 hours at $80 to bring it back. This is a 24 mile round trip, plus loading / unloading time. I told them that 45 minutes each trip would be about right. They finally dropped it to 1/2, but would never admit or even even consider that they may have been wrong. I told him that if it ever needed to come back in, I would drive it or drag it rather than be taken for a fool and be overcharged like that.

So, I'll never spend another buck in his store unless it's something that I can't get ANYWHERE else.

i would make the dealership bring you another new shredder.an pick up the other 1.

Just an update, I went into the dealership this morning and spoke with the manager. Without asking he said he would trade out for a new one or they would replace any problems on the current one for the next year, 100% excluding it getting thrown off a cliff etc. So all seals, u-joints, the drive shaft, bearings are covered... I'm happy with that.

bearings would be my concern, any hard licks they take can cause premature wear,

Have him put it in writing for your own protection. We had a situation where something was guaranteed by word. They guy left the business and we were up a creek without a paddle because no else know about it.

Personally I would have them give you a new one for two reasons:

1. You paid for a brand new one. It is a matter of principle.

2. IMHO you will find out very quickly that you made a mistake and should have gotten a 6 footer with the L4400. I have a L3400 and a 5 footer. I wish I would have gotten the 6 footer. 5 footer just covers my tracks with R4 tires. I would prefer one that is wider than the tractor when mowing around fence-lines. Do yourself the favour and get them to exchange AND pay the extra bit for the six footer. You won't be sorry, I promise. Your tractor will handle it like a champ... trust me on that one.

The wider then the rear wheels deal works along fences only if it's wide enough thatyou can see the front corners of the mower. I've eaten a lot of t-posts with the 8 footer that I can;t see the corners of. The 6 footer isn;t a problem, but it's so much slower then the 8
