First the computer started "rebooting" whenever it chose to --- and would say Windows had a fatal error. Then I couldn't use Explorer. So I emailed my computer repair guy. He usually can fix me up remotely over internet. Well, then my Outlook Express crashed. Anyway, delivered computer to him to fix.
Turns out "my old computer" repair person, set up my harddrive as Drive E instead of C. Beyond me --- but supposedly Windows doesn't like that, and it was slowly crashing. Was OK until my "big foot" D drive crashed & computer guy took it out. Ever since then, it's been getting weird on me.
Anyway, I'm back on line, but soooo many things are different. He had to erase the drive & put stuff back on. Well, he had newer versions - which isn't too bad.
But, my email account is Outlook and I want to use Outlook Express - so far I can't figure out the right settings to get it to work.
I had Front Page for my web sites - gone. Luckily I recently purchased an upgrade which I was able to install (tricky without the old one on the computer) - but, I USED to just click on my recent files & open up my web site - GONE. Cannot find my web sites anywhere! Years ago I used to upload & download thru an FPT program. Don't have one & don't remember how I used to do it - :mad:
I know I will eventually get things back on track - but very frustrating.

I know you probably already do this, but it is a good idea to back up all files and even programs on a regular basis. Makes life a bit less interesting when having to fix computer problems...which make our life very interesting! Nero has a great program for backing up all programs and files.
On the outlook and outlook express thing...I prefer outlook, but since a virus in an email corrupted my outlook I now use windows live. It is very much safer than both of the outlook programs and has all the features like a calender. Pretty much runs the same. On the plus side of Windows live, you can set up multiple email accouts. Then instead of having to open all the different accounts and log in, it can all down load to live...that is neat.
Another thing i have learned, is once you have fresh install, do a recovery disc. This therotically should be done after all windows updates and antivirus updates, but before installing any programs....A just incase thing

If you meant FTP software you still need, there is a free one called Filezilla. It must be pretty easy cuz I was able to figure out how to upload files to a web site with it all by myself. :lol:

Update. I was able to "get into" my web sites & this time I downloaded a copy onto my computer's C drive. Turns out, I've only had my actual "outerspace" web site that I've been updating/correcting with no actual "copy" on my computer (I did a whole computer search & NOTHING!) This new version of Front Page is really different but seems really good.
Computer person is setting up a time for us to "remotely" get all the rest of my info set up.
And, I DO HAVE Carbonite - but that saves all your data/files - constantly - not programs (I don't think - hmmm I guess I should check that out). Everything that was on my computer, my guy did saved - or thought he did.
Isn't it funny how you start using one program & it's sooo hard to get adjusted to another? Like Rockridge likes Outlook & I much prefer Outlook Express. But, mainly because it takes so long to "find" buttons & stuff.
Good to be back on-line. I depend on my email service for cattle business "stuff".

You mean you get on the computer and don't check your email :shock: Not me, I try to check it daily - if not more. Amazing how many people contact me that way. Asking about Simmental or just our own cattle - or upcoming events, etc. Also, I'm the state Junior Cattlemen's advisor (one of them)
 
naah, I come to CT, Ranchers, Boggelheads, Yesterdays Tractors.......Check E-mail about once a week. Checked it a while ago, time before that was June 5th.....and that was to confirm a prescription was ready to pick up.

Since then I had 8 e-mails, 1 precsription order confirmation and 1 saying it was ready to pick up. 2 Janus fund proxy notices, and 4 newsletters.

"Junk mail" account had 107.
