Tornado just hit the ground a few minutes ago. I checked the radar and the thing was coming right at me. Few minutes later civil defense horn starts blaring and the wind is picking up. I'm looking outside and the wind changes directions. Much needed rain is pouring down but the tornado is headed right at my location. Its raining sideways now. Heck, I just finished fixing the fences last week from the last tornado that came through. Wind has all but stopped now. Is this the calm before the storm or what? Eerie business. I know what a deer in the headlights feels like. Radar looks to show it went east of me but I have a farm down that way to so I don't know if I got damage there or not. Got lucky last time. Fingers crossed.

Pretty scary. December 26, 2015 I watched two of them west of me for several minutes. I thought they were a long way off, but turned out both were only about a mile from me.. I always heard about the train sound, but these sounded more like turbines. Glad you're safe, Jo!

Sorry, I had a small emergency I had to take care of. I'm alright. Got some damage but mostly just wind and trees on some fences. Funny thing is yesterday it was a wildfire and today it was a tornado and high winds. But we got rain and that is what we needed the most..

We moved out of VSU yesterday and the smoke was terrible.

Maybe this rain will help. We had another fire yesterday and it almost burnt my friend's house down. Truck was pulling a trailer and bearings got hot and set the ROW on fire and it took off like someone threw gas on it.

Jo hope all is well.. We had a tornado about 10 miles from me did some damage and we had sirens as well... It is a sickening feeling in your stomach knowing you have your family in the house and there is not much you can do to protect them.

It is scary. Especially when you can't see anything. I was working in Florida today and my wife called asking if I was alright. Seems another bad patch of weather went by the farm around 4 this afternoon but I think it was just straight line winds or whatever they call them. No damage to speak of. Just more fence work it seems.

I've watched several twisters dancing around out on the scrubland from the high bluff I lived on out in San Angelo. None came close enough to hear the train. Tornado warnings/watches scare the heck out of me here--can't see past the tree lines, and at night, can't even see that far.
At least with hurricanes, you know in advance they're coming.

Oddest thing I ever saw was it raining mud one night in Angelo. A big front had come in from the north, carrying lots of dust from the rowcrop fields a couple counties up and a gently mist began. I don't mean a little bit of dirt on cars..it was a good heavy coating of thick brown mud on everything the next morning. Looked like someone had taken a huge bucket of drilling mud and just dumped it on everything. Car washes made a fortune that day. All the roads were slicker than owl poop.

I've only heard the train once but have seen plenty of the aftermath. Most surreal thing I've seen in the wake of a tornado was a cow and a goat hanging from an 80' pine tree and shortly after that I was startled by a huge commotion as someone's dryer comes crashing out of another tree.

Bad thing about living here is when the tornadoes come you can't see them coming because of all the trees. I think with us being in the information age like we are and being able to see the radar and see it coming in your direction just makes it worse.

Had one form right over the house a few years ago, started pulling a vacuum through the chimney , wife threw the front door open and headed for the bathroom . Killed 7 people .

Sounds like she kept her whits about her. Glad she is alright.
