…I would say this to our leaders and future leaders.

This is America.

We speak American english. We always have. Used to be it was a requirement for citizens to speak english.

We are a nation of laws described in the constitution and tweaked by constitutional amendments. It has served us well for more than two centuries. One of the fundamental rights described by the constitution is the right to free speech. This is the right to ALL free speech, including speech that may offend one group or another. One manifestation of this right might come in the form of cartoons of our leaders or deities.

We are a Christian populous, at least most of us are. Those of other religions or faiths have the right to worship as they please. They DO NOT have the right to tell us how we should worship. If they can not live with this requirement the door is open, please return to wherever you came from. Why are you here in the first place.

We should not recognize laws other than those set forth by the American constitution. Sharia law is not a law of this country and should not be recognized by any American citizen or any one living in this country legally.

There is not a single human being in this country that is still alive from the time slavery was part of American history. Why would anyone living today be held responsible for reparation (redistribution of wealth).

I have nothing against legal immigration but it should be a requirement for ALL immigrants to register within 30 days of entering the USA and begin the process of becoming legal. Penalty for not doing so is severe.

Welfare should ONLY be given to those who can not work. Those who can work must do so in order to receive something from you and I.

Statements made by politicians must be backed up with truthful facts and plans to fulfill. For example, statements by candidates like "I intend to do much more executive privilege when it come to immigration" should include exactly what that means. This is clearly a political statement designed to entice immigrant voters. Same could be said for free phones. Personally, I'm not that cheap, I can not be bought for $30.00.

Donations from foreign governments to politicians should be strictly forbidden. Actually, I thought it was.

What would you tell our politicians?

I'd like to look our current POTUS and congress right in the eye and tell him that "because of you all, I have to find and apologize to all of Benedict Arnold's heirs".

I agree with all your points. Especially the part about welfare. We should stop giving people money for nothing. They should do something to earn it. Picking up trash on the side of the highway, answering phones at government offices, just something.

I'd pitch in for a plane ticket for you to DC, and maybe even go along to hold them to make them listen.

On'y thing I'd add to your words is,, AMEN..

This covers most of the bases. Only place I really differ is welfare. There should be none- period. Not sometimes, not for alittle while I mean nothing. You get rid of this and lower my taxes accordingly. I will help those that need it as would others. We are a charitable society as a whole and the only thing that limits that is available funds which we would have more of with reduced taxes and the bad taste left in our mouth from abuse of said charity. Let me decide who deserves my help and how they are helped. No one would be turned from my table hungry but they wouldn't squander my money on beer either.

Also taxes should be flat rate percentage or even a dollar amount. I don't care how much you make if you want equal rights you bear an equal burden. If you want the government to take care of you there are a plenty of socialist societies for you to reside in. Freedom is just that you are on your own take it for what it is. Don't like it please leave!

I would only add that there should NO lifetime politicians. Our founding fathers were dead set against that ideal, wanted the best and brightest to serve in got for a few years, then get out and let someone new have a poke...those days are long long gone..you couldn't dynamite some of these govt reps out of there now

No benefits politicians and their families and lower wages way lower. Congress was never meant to be a fulltime lifetime job. They are also not above the law so tired of them only getting a slap on the wrist for stuff I would go to jail for.

Wonder why they didn't add that when writing the constitution. Sure would have saved a lot of headaches... not to mention bad laws and wasted money.

The voters put them there. We've no one to blame but ourselves. We simply don't have a majority of voters who believe that politicians shouldn't serve for life. If the voters want their crony in office, that's the way it has to be. The supreme court has already determined that any term limit requirements are an infringement of voters rights.

Good post Lavaca!

That is not going to happen the government has them right where they want.
Sheeple are a lot easier to control. Career politicians are not about to give up the
power and money. You no longer vote for a person but the party platform.
If your representative doesn't tow the line the party will either sideline him rendering
him ineffective or support someone else in the next election cycle.

  Entitlement spending is a tool the government uses to play our emotions. It was based on good intentions but has long since jumped the track. Real need needs to be met face to face on a case by case basis by neighbors and churches. I think the truly needy would be better off but as it is well intentioned people don't help because they expect the government to handle it and never see that it's cheaper to help those in need and cut off the system abusers.

I would hazard a guess that our founders did not write that in to the Constitution because they never imagined that slugs, without any skin in the game, would be able to vote themselves more free stuff.

Still amazes me that they foresaw so many potential dangerous things yet this slipped by.

Exactly right, this isn't about popular vote keeping politicians in perpetual office, it's about partylines, backroom deals, special interest and most importantly MONEY! Think about it, the vast majority of politicians are lawyers by trade..they leave successful law practices to 'serve' in Washington, most for the majority of their lives....must be A LOT of juice and not much squeeze.
