I saw the space shuttle-just now!

This is really cool, the space shuttle went over our farm, I got a real good view of it, and when the sun hit the metal, I could see it glistening. The sonic boom started, and as it travelled on it faded, and then wham-it boomed really loud. Cool huh?

No, but one time the blimp went right over our back field, and it was flying low, and we did wave at that. That was also really COOL!

I heard where it may be visible in the Birmingham AL area, since I'm 60 miles from Birmingham, I was standing in the pasture looking. I didn't see anything but think I heard the boom.

We get blimps all the time - following the southern route along I-10, I guess - runs through the middle of the place.

About 15 minutes before you posted this, the windows shook on the house. I thought someone was trying to break in. Anyhow, an hour or so later my wife asked me if I had heard the sonic boom of the shuttle at this time. Everybody in town was talking about it this afternoon.

Its amazing how fast this shuttle was travelling. Someone told me about 10 minutes after I saw it, it had already reached its destination in Florida, doesn't seem possible, but I guess they said it was going Mach 10 or less.

News stations here said it was supposed to 'pass' St. Louis at 12:00 and land at Florida at 12:01. We went out at about 11:55 but had apparently already missed it.

I was actually at the computer when I heard it and was going to comment on it when you first posted but I thought it was just a coincidence until I heard everyone talking about it. I'd like to see the thing take off. It's facinating to me. And what beats that, the thing is old.

Darn that would be something to see...All we ever see around here is those B-52's and B-2's flying at about 50 feet and scaring the holey bejeezus out of your saddle horse when they top over a hill right in front of you...every once in a while they get too busy concentrating on chasing antelope- and they fly one into a hillside :shock:

OT sounds like the old B-17's that would be hedge hopping outside of Cut Bank. One came over the hill and scared my mother in laws father right off the tractor he was driving.
Got the propeller from one in the Fort Benton Museum from the one that crashed up by Big Sandy. They set up a memorial for the crewmen who died in the crash.

You can see it take off from where you live. I've seen it a couple of times take off. It needs to be at night to see it, here where I live anyway.. Get on a hill with an unobstructed view of the East-Southeast horizon and you can't miss it. You'll see it for a couple of minutes- looks like a giant ball of fire. It won't get much over the horizon though. Also you have to have clear skies. You're probably closer to Cape Canaveral than I am Jogee. I'm 300 miles away.

I'll make a point to get in a cotton field or something next time it takes off, I've never seen it. I'd really like to go down there and view the takeoff in person. A friend of mine and his wife both worked down there in the missile programs. They had some good connections with NASA and had planned a tour for me and my oldest boy who was hoping to go to Air Force Academy at the time. Unfortunately, they had some political uproar there and some heads hit the chopping block and our tour didn't happen. They were kind enough to make a few phone calls after meeting my son and he was accepted a few days later.

I would love to see that sometime. Did see one on the launch pad from about a mile away years ago, but that's not the same as seeing it screeching across the sky.

Back in the late 80's one was supposed to be descending fairly close to us on it's way to Florida, but ended up being diverted to Edwards because of bad weather.
