Seems like the calves are looking for ways to die. Its keeping me on my toes. Glad i found this guy when i did.
Found him like this

Called for help, while waiting, checked on the rest of the herd...came back to this


Had to break out board. He didnt move the whole time so i was worried he had broken his neck.
Luckily, he's ok..
 
It was a real pretty morning. Its a long drive to this mineral feeder and i dont usually go all the way up to it. Its also in trees so you have to go up to it to see all around it. So he's lucky i felt like driving around that morning...

that was a close one,.. they sure do look for ways to die! had a close call when I was at my friends place, he left for work early in the morning after the party weekend, and before I left I decided I was going to go take a picture of Hector... Lo an behold there's a cow that's going to calf, so I hang around, and in the end had to give it a pull, had I not seen it, I don't know when anyone else would have looked, maybe in 4 days to see what smells bad?
 
I hadnt noticed, but the end picture looks like we had remove his head to get him out...lol....i assure that he does still have his head..
 
I had one about that size break into the fence around the round bales. It went up between the 3 and 4th rolls. Wedged itself in. Must have been there a couple of days. Had to move around 30 bales to free it. Poor thing made a bee line for the pond. Went down a couple of times on the way. It survived. Found it quite by accident. So many back then that I hadn't really missed it.

Glad you got that one out and he's okay.
 
They do the darndest things! We had a steer do that a few years ago, trying to sneak some hay from a stack adjacent to a pen in the barn. He found the tiniest little space at the bottom of a panel to stick his head through. Thank God, it was also slaughter day that day!! He met his maker with his head in the bottom of the panel and his rear in the air.

I remember when you originally posted about that! I remember thinking to myself that it sure was a good thing that it occured on slaughter day.

We have a lot of wooded areas our cows can go. One time we had a heifer stick her head between 2 trees.. When she was found, she was alive but had been there a long time. Another time some pitbulls ran a big steer between some hay bales. They climbed up on the bales and ate the calfs ears off..... We shoot any pit, pit cross dogs running loose now. We talked to a guy who had a bunch of cows. He was missing around 5 calves and found them in the bottom of a well..
 
UUgh, that's gonna make for some good water!

My friend has a pitbull, best and most friendly dog you've ever seen, I think they get a bad rap because they're owned by people who want a bad-azzed dog, and they lend themselves well to that. This dog adopts EVERY orphan he has.. every piglet, lamb, or calf that gets brought into the house gets a licking from him, and sleep and play with him. The most dangerous part of him is his tail, he will beat you to death with that thing!

I am less selective, I shoot any dog that sets foot here, I know my next door neighbors dogs get out once in a while and don't chase cows, so they get a warning shot.
 
We're in a big pig hunting area where they use all sorts of crosses with pits. Sometimes the dogs run to far and get lost. We get either those or cow dogs. One time we did find a mini Dachshund that i found a home for. If the cow dog seems friendly, we give them a home. The hog dogs go though, unless they have a collar with a name. We did have one with a name show up at our house. Went outside to find him eating a calf i was doctoring. Was a neighbors dog and i wished we had made them pay for the calf. The calf was not going to survive, he was paralyzed on his back end so i had no hope for him, but they still should have paid. Specially after they argued that our dogs could have done it. Well, our dogs cant leave the yard and the white dog covered in blood was caught eating on the calf..lol..

Arghhhhhhhhh!
 
People around here fight pitbulls and breed them a lot. They get overwhelmed with dogs and they dump the ones they don't want. Or the puppies. We have given the puppies a chance from a very young age and it never works. Its like they reach a certain maturity point around 2 years of age and somethings snaps. Then they realize that their mission in life is world domination and they start chasing and killing. So no more chances for them. They as a breed are too far gone due to they way they have been inbred for fighting.

Honestly, they are PIT BULLS. They are BRED to fight and dominate bulls. What more of a clue should anyone need? I have very little patience for misbehaved dogs. I can fall out of love with a dog in a minute, even my own dog, and then SSS happens.
