I may be able to laugh about this after I get some sleep, but right now at 3am it's not too funny.

Went out at 2am to do a check and in our west corrals there is a first year heifer stretched out and water bag coming out.
Now our calving corrals are divided by a fence. We have the super sloppy slippery east side and the somewhat ice sheet west side.
I go over and get her heading for the east side, where the barn is located, of course. Being careful to not slip on the ice sheets.
Get her in there and she starts heading for the north part of the corral where it is almost knee deep muck.
I hurry up a head of her and cut her off.
She finally starts heading to the barn and I step in behind and you know that wonderful splook sound your boot makes when it decides at that moment to get stuck?
Yep. I'm stuck.

So here I am now stuck in the deep muck cussing a blue streak and trying to get my boot free before the heifer decides to make a break for it.
Just as I start getting it free I lose my balance and go splat.

I'll tell you guys what I would have made any salior proud at that moment.

Now I'm sitting in the muck and I can't get up. there seems to be no bottom to it when I put my hand down. Finally get over onto my knees and crawl over to the cement pad that the automatic waterer sits on.
Look around and the heifer is in the barn.

Got her locked in, got back to the house and took a shower.

I hate mud.

I agree, wish there was a way to share our excesses! Snow has melted. Mud here is starting to dry up, but four days of rain are now predicted. At least the frost has come out enough that hopefully it won't be quite such a mess. Where is that magic wand when ya need it??? :?

i bet you was a sight to see belly deep in mudd, cussing an ranting at the top of your lungs.

Already there CB...been 42 days since we had anthing that dripped off the roofs. 4/10ths since January 9 and maybe an inch of snow. Pastures are already that grey green they turn just before they turn brown.

We ain't that bad off in the rain forest yet we are on track for about 24 inches for the year. Thats only 40 inches short for us. We have had 6 inches for the year.

kenny that is what my hubby said this morning. Good thing he's quick on his feet, I was going to share it with him. :lol2:
I don't think they could take the smell of all the organic materials in it. :lol2: :lol2:

Sorry no pictures. Glad I didn't have my camera with me, I would still be digging for it.

Ok you guys that would like the mud, come get it. I'll loan you the scoop shovels. :lol2: :lol2: ;-)

Yep I got stuck again.
At least this time I didn't fall into the slop. I think if I had someone would have had to come get me.
It was the worst spot possible. About knee deep. I did lose my right boot, but was able to dig it out.

Got that calf into the barn though. Instead of trying to drag the sled with the calf through that slop took him out the north gate and up the hill to the hay pit gate. Luckily the cow followed.
Calf is in the hot box right now. Will be checking on him in about an hour and a half. He's pretty chilled right now. He was in standing water when I found him.

Anybody that wants mud I have plenty to share. You will need at least 16 inch boots to walk through the pen. That is if you know the good route to take. Other parts hip boots would be advisable.

In my part of the world where there is no such thing as a winter drought we have been especially wet this winter. Three years out of four I go to grass the first of April. No such luck this year. It has been too cold and wet for grass to grow.
