Really if everyone used the number 2 as a answer I think prices would go up. Think about it if everyone had 2 cows, 2 feeders, 2 acres of corn, 2 acres of beans etc. When they released their report of hardly any crops or cows. What would prices and futures do?

As I said.. I don't mind a 5 year census or something.. I understand that general trends are good to know.. however when it comes down to INSTANTANEOUS stocks on everything that benefits everyone except the people producing the data, then screw it.

Hopefully the cattle business will never get as bad as the fishing business. As a commercial fishing opperation we have to call in when we leave the dock and within 3 hours before we return to the dock. And we also have a VMS on board that tracks our movement 24-7. Then we have to fill out weekly or monthly fishing and expense reports.
I used to get to fish under a scientific research permit for Sandbar sharks. But we had to take an NMFS observer with us on each fishing trip. The last time we were picked we had a month to make 4 trips. Well the first two trips the weather was good, the second two trips it was frightening. The observer stayed in the cabin and called the Coast Guard for assistance because I wouldn't quit fishing and turn around. Having to deal with the government is worse than going to the dentist.
We have it easy in the cattle business for now government wise. IMO

This is where we are going. You will not be able to raise/sell livestock without the government watching/regulating everything you do and signing off on it. This is why I'm not reporting. They want to identify potential US agricultural operations. Has anyone asked themselves what does this mean, and looked into it? Do you really want them to identify your operation as such? As far as I'm concerned, I have my own operation, it does not belong to the US.
 
We need rules and regulations, because people have proven they can't police themselves. But giving a public servant the power to create more public service jobs is bad for the private citizens. The more public service jobs, equals more power for the government. The government wants US to depend and work for them.
