This actually works out pretty good. I can now eat with the cows while I am at the farm. I am eating at the hay ring with them to protect my health.

I recently got the report on my annual checkup. My total Cholesterol is 177 but my LDL Particle Number is high, 1469 should be less than 1000. Of more concern is the Small LDL-P which is 936 and should be less than 527. My HDL which is the good cholesterol is 67 and that is good as anything above 40 helps remove the bad cholesterol.

Nevertheless, the doctor counseled me on diet. Seems everything is bad. Even the sugar in fruits is bad. Stay away from red meat. Too much fiber can actually irritate my diverticulosis. Cereal is bad because it is mostly unnecessary carbohydrate. Nothing with fat because that is where the Small LDL-P is coming from.

So, the only thing left is to eat fescue, orchard grass and red clover with the cows. At least this way, I get to spend more time bonding with them.

Is anyone else getting these new cholesterol numbers? They are called "NMR LipoProfile, LDL Particle Number".

I can save ya from having to eat out there. get some of that shredded wheat .. its like small bales of hay.

God help you if you're a diabetic and cardiac patient. Hay is about the only thing you can eat and not have the doc yell at you.

Slick I can speak on the Cardiac side and I can tell you I will gladly take the doc yelling at me ... Its just my wife I can't take I can't come visit her an hour then leave come back months later so I hear it everyday the fact shes a nurse I think fuels her rage :lol2:

The diabetic thing has just been within the last six months or so. Still trying to control things with diet. Having to eat this way sucks!

Same here Slick! About all we can eat is lettuce it seems! :yuck: My pancreas has been sputtering along, trying to die a slow death I guess! I am not Insulin dependent, though I do take Metformin. Just have to be careful of what I eat, which is not easy when you were thin all your life and able to eat what ever you want. A complete lifestyle change for me! I found that the Atkins shakes and bars help with hunger and my sweet tooth.

Inyati, they have proven that this is caused by "inflammation in the body." I have read some very interesting studies on it and will PM them to you when I have some time.

Slick, nothing like that. I am healthy according to my other results which fills 4 pages. My BP was 127 over 67 if I remember right. Not bad for a 63 1/2 year old. I got the genes for a good long ride if I don't get kicked in the head, fall off a barn roof or a tree don't fall on me. :D Shoot, I forgot. The Lion Tamer might get a hold of me and end it all. :D

Just eat persimmons. Was reading just today how good they were for you and I think they would accomplish everything you are trying to accomplish. Of course your wife may tire of you walking around the house with puckered up lips. She might think you are wanting to get frisky.

A little late in the season for persimmons in my area, Jo. Besides, if my wife thought I was getting frisky she would just tell me to check the calendar to see if my name was written down for the day.

Ron, have you heard of the Paleo diet. It is basically to mimmick the hunting and gathering of Paleolithic man. I have been on it since Xmas, it is not really a diet but a way of eating. Nothing grain based, plenty of meat preferably game meat and all fruit and veges except potato and other root veges.
I really like it. You eat whenever you feel like it. If you feel like meat you just pick up a chunk and chew on it, grab a handful of grapes or nuts. I have been eating a lot of dried fruit like dates.
I don't have issues with weight but feel that I have dropped fat coverage of muscles and are feeling pretty lean and mean, certainly have a lot more energy during the day. My blood pressure at the doctors is usually 135/90 although at home will be 120/65. A couple of weeks ago I went to the doctors and it was 126/67. I can't remember the figures for cholesterol but he said it was OK.
I highly recommend this way of eating.
Ken

I've been eating much the same as you Ken. My chiropractor is a fan of the paleo diet and he gave me some info and internet links. He said it would help my circulation and arthritis. I certainly feel fitter and have lost some weight as well. Plenty salads, veg, fruits, fish and meats, some nuts, dates. No sugar and hardly have cereals, breads, butter at all except on special occasions. I must be a 'foodaholic' as still crave chocolate, wine etc. but have limited my intake (still working on the wine bit.......).
