I have had a 3 ton for 10+ years and only replaced a fan capacitor which I did myself, knock on wood.
 
I have a college degree in hvac and electrical but haven't worked on any units in serval years Iam by far a expert. I have a goodman and haven't had any problems with it. It's around 10 years old. Truth is that most of them are about the same with different names on the outside. Most of the parts are the same.
 
We have several in our rental properties for the price they great units. If I have a unit go out that is what I will replace it with.
