I got this group of nine longhorn pairs about a month ago with nice charolais calves, bred back to a charolais bull again. Four were $700 per pair and the other 5 were $800. The lady I bought them from raises registered longhorns and was selling some of her smaller horned cows to free up pasture space. I'd say they look pretty darn good! Plus, all the cows are very gentle!



















 
not many longhorns around my part of the country but they are interesting cattle to me. nice looking pairs and sounds like a good buy. If the calves would get sold around here, you would probably get your money back just from the calf.

You did well on those mommas! They'll make $$. The longer you keep those calves, the more they'll show LH. I've had a few LHXChar calves in my lifetime, and as long as you sell them before they get real stretchy, they'll do just fine.
 
Those were the smaller horned cows!!! Very impressive.
I'm curious how you work cattle with horns like that. Do you need a special chute?
 
As I recall you are just outside of Vale. I know a guy a little west of there who has hundreds of longhorn cows bred to Char bulls. They work good to make good looking calves cheap. But they don't finish as good as they look as calves.

She had some cows with horns in the 90s!
She does have a special chute as well. She let us use it so we could brand them and it went pretty smooth, although it definitely takes more time than running regular cattle through a squeeze chute.

I believe I know who you are talking about. While they may not finish out as well as the beef calves, I think they'll still make me some money. Although I certainly wouldn't want a whole herd of em
