This is my second year showing cattle. Last year I didn't pick out my own steer since I won it in a draw so I need some really good advice on what to look for when I'm choosing one. I'm purchasing my calf from a local farmer that I know from 4-H. He has roughly 30 calves for me to choose from. These will be yearlings in the spring. Any help would be appreciated! I've been looking for a good book for refrence when choosing one but I haven't had any luck. I looked locally and I didn't find anything. I also looked online but there wasn't anything that would be in by this weekend. I have a good idea on what to look for, straight strong top, long level wide rump, long neck, smooth shoulders, trim and neat throat dewlap and brisket, deep forerib, trim middle, strong pasterns and well sprung ribs. Anything else? Please Reply!
